Hello, fellow travel lovers!
I’m Maysa, and it gives me great pleasure to share with you some of my most treasured Unique Travel Experiences from Portugal and Egypt, two of my favorite places.
I’ve always loved planning small group trips so that others may see the wonder of travel through my eyes.
I’ve traveled to many parts of the world. What are some unique travel destinations? With stories that may perhaps encourage you to join me on one of our next Travel with Maysa adventures, I’ll take you virtually through the sun-drenched streets of Lisbon and the historic beauties of Cairo today.
My passionate obsession with Portugal started in Lisbon, a city that expertly brings together contemporary energy with old-world beauty. I was hit hard by the friendliness of the Portuguese people and the alluring smell of freshly made pastéis de nata as soon as I got off the aircraft.
What are some unique travel experiences I can try? One of my favorite Lisbon cool travel experiences was getting lost in Alfama, the oldest area in the city. It seemed to me as I ascended the steep cobblestone walkways that I was going back in time. Fado music emerging from secret tavernas added to the enchanted mood, while the houses’ vibrant azulejo tiles conveyed tales of Portugal’s rich culture.
How to create unique travel experiences in this trip? Well, you should dress comfortably and be ready for a workout when touring Alfama! The views from the top are well worth the often difficult climbs.
I headed north out of Lisbon to Porto, a city well-known for its port wine and breathtaking riverbank views. Seeing the famous Dom Luís I Bridge span across the water and the vibrant homes piled along the riverbanks on a boat trip down the Douro River is my greatest memory of Porto.
Still, the wine-tasting trip in Vila Nova de Gaia was without a doubt the high point of my Porto visit. I discovered the complex procedure of producing port and developed a fresh admiration for this popular Portuguese export as I sampled several port wines in centuries-old cellars.
Without seeing the breathtaking southern Algarve region, no journey to Portugal would be complete. The first sight I saw of Lagos’ stunning beaches and towering cliffs will never fade. The blue seas and golden sand contrasted so magnificently.
Kayaking among the grottos and caves close to Benagil Beach was one of my unique adventure travel experiences. I experienced a thrill and wonder that I’m always ready to share with my fellow travelers as I paddled through glistening seas and discovered secret caverns.
My journey into Egypt started with Cairo, a busy city where the past and present coexist. I knew I was going to have an amazing experience the instant I heard the citywide call to prayer as I walked out of my hotel.
A trip to the Egyptian Museum is among my most treasured memories of Cairo. I came upon the golden mask of Tutankhamun as I walked through corridors filled with antiquated relics. The weight of history it symbolized and the delicacy of the workmanship astounded me.
Unbelievably, the Egyptian Museum has more than 120,000 items, including everything from Tutankhamun’s tomb!
Without seeing the Giza Plateau—home of the famous Great Pyramids and the Sphinx—no journey to Egypt would be complete. My first impression of these old marvels will never fade. Photos just cannot adequately convey the enormity of the pyramids; one must see them in person to fully understand their beauty.
What are unique travel experiences for adventure seekers? Well, I loved riding a camel around the pyramids at dusk at Giza. I thought I had been taken back in time to the pharaoh era when the sun set and a golden glow spread over the desert.
Traveling south from Cairo, I arrived to Luxor, sometimes known as the biggest outdoor museum in the world. My first experience of Luxor was a hot air balloon trip above the Valley of the Kings before dawn. We were flying above the historic temples and tombs when the early dawn light created a genuinely enchanted mood by casting lengthy shadows across the countryside.
The size and opulence of Karnak Temple as it stood stunned me on the ground. As I moved through the Hypostyle Hall, which was surrounded by enormous columns adorned with elaborate hieroglyphs, I thought I was entering a history book.
The tranquil Nile bank city of Aswan was the end of my Egyptian journey. A sunset felucca trip is one of my favorite Aswan memories. I thought back on the amazing trip I had had while we sailed down the river, the soft wind carrying the aroma of spices from the neighboring markets.
A visit to the Temple of Philae, which is devoted to the goddess Isis, was another highlight of my trip to Aswan. Moved to higher ground to avoid flooding, the temple is evidence of Egypt’s dedication to protecting its rich cultural legacy.
